Overview
We champion Waipā’s History by sharing powerful and relevant stories with experiences that activate, transform and build connectedness within our community and nation. Located in the centre of the rich and diverse history of the Waipā district, the Te Awamutu Museum offers visitors amazing visual presentations and interpretation of key points of its social history, based on its successful education programmes. Visitors are treated to activated learning experiences through interactive inquiry, historic taonga stories, discovery trails and digital showcases.
Notes for Cardholders
Standing and Queuing

We don't usually have queues to deal with here. If you like we can take you to a seat, and serve you there.
Level Access

Our building has accessible parking at the front of the building and level access through the front door and galleries. We have a mobility lift to carry people to our mezzanine level gallery.
Distances

Our building is not large and there is plenty of seating throughout that you are welcome to use. Our accessible parking is 20m away from the front entrance.
Urgent Toilet Access

We have 2 accessible toilet/family toilets. If you present this icon to us we will ensure you are next to use the toilet in a discrete way.
Disability Assist Dogs

We comply with the NZ law with respect to Disability Assistance Dogs. The staff will offer you water for your dog and will indicate the nearest place for the dog to relieve itself.
Essential Companions

We do not require payment to enter so your companion is more than welcome if they want to purchase something or not.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Through the Training, the staff are well-informed about adapting their communication and assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision. They can assist you to a seat and guide you a seat / Toilet if required.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information

Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient. The staff are aware of the NZ Relay service, so please use this if you think it appropriate when ringing if needed.
Hidden Disabilities

Through the staff's training, they are generally aware of hidden disabilities. Please speak to them about how they can assist in making your time with us extraordinary.
