Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre has a large range of books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and AV material for all ages. Find out more about Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori in Ngā Pounamu Māori and many other cultures in our wider collections. We have computers that are free to use, as well as laptop stations and lots of seating space to enjoy our Wi-Fi on your own device. There is access to a printer/photocopier and a family history computer. Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre Library is a busy library, especially after school when things can get crowded. Tuesdays are a busy time between 10am–1pm as this is when our customers can visit the free JP Clinic. At the Customer Service Centre you are able to access the full range of council services and information. This includes paying your rates, registering your dog, making a community facilities booking, or obtaining information about your property. The Customer Services team are available Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm. Note the customer service desk is not open during weekends.

We are happy to spend time with you to understand your needs and help you have a wonderful library experience.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information
hearing.png
There are a variety of reasons why a patron might not find it possible or easy to process audible information beyond being hard of hearing, or deaf. For those who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind or speech impaired there is a free service (https://www.nzrelay.co.nz/index) which will allow them to communicate with your staff. Through this web page entry you can make potential patrons aware that you know about this service and are happy to use it. Outside of this, when staff are talking to patrons with this icon on their card, get staff to slow down speech, be willing to repeat themselves, have a notepad to write things down, and be patient. Avoid your staff 'talking down' to the patron, or avoiding talking with them.
