Overview
At Better By Bike, every rider belongs on the trail. Whether you’re chasing the best day ever, riding with family, or need a bike that suits mobility needs, we’ve got you covered.
Based out of Dudleys Cottage in Arrowtown since 2012, we’re the original crew on the Queenstown Trails Network. All hires include trail support and shuttle options, so you can ride farther with peace of mind.

Notes for Cardholders
Standing and Queuing
At Better By Bike, we make sure you don’t need to stand or queue. When your bikes are booked in advance, they’ll be ready and waiting for you with our onboarding crew at the front of our hire shop. If you would like a seat while you wait, our team will provide one and assist you as soon as possible.
Level Access
We keep the door open during business hours, and a wheelchair can access the building if needed. However, we can also complete the check-in process and bike fitting out the front of the business.
Distances
We have an accessible parking space located directly in front of our shop, within 50 metres of the entrance. This space is kept available at all times for customers who need it. Our entrance is level and easy to access, and our team is always happy to assist with wheelchairs or provide support when moving from the car park into the shop.
Urgent Toilet Access
We have an accessible toilet located right beside our shop. This facility is available for customer use, and a key is kept at our counter. If you would like to use it, simply ask a member of our team, and we will provide the key and guide you to the entrance.
Disability Assist Dogs
At Better By Bike, we welcome all dogs, especially Disability Assist Dogs. To make their visit more comfortable, we provide a water bowl, a shaded rest area under a tree, and a discreet grassed area nearby where they can be taken to relieve themselves.
Essential Companions
At Better By Bike, we recognise the importance of Essential Companions in making cycling experiences accessible. We welcome Essential Companions and have various bike hire options available for them to book as well, so you can enjoy the day out together without barriers.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information
If you find it difficult to process visual information, our team is here to help. We can talk you through important details such as trail maps, entry and exit pathways, or shuttle pick-up points. If signs or boards are unclear, we’ll happily explain them verbally. Our staff can also guide you to a seat or the toilet, and assist with making payments if needed. Just let us know how we can best support you.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information
If you find it difficult to process spoken information, we will make sure everything is clear and accessible for you. Our team can provide written notes, maps, and instructions to support your experience. We also have pen and paper available if you prefer to communicate that way. Staff are happy to speak slowly and clearly to support lip-reading, and will always take the time to ensure you feel confident and informed before setting off.
Hidden Disabilities
We know that some needs are not visible, and every person experiences access differently. If you have a hidden disability or support requirement, please feel comfortable letting our team know how we can best support you. We can offer quiet spaces near our Arrowtown base if you need a break, and we’ll always take the time to listen, be patient, and make any adjustments needed so you can enjoy your experience with Better By Bike.
