Overview
Heading to the Christchurch Town Hall never fails to bring a sense of excitement and occasion. Whether you’re attending an exhibition, corporate function, or concert, this world-class facility is sure to delight! There are five key spaces to choose from including the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium, the James Hay Theatre and three large event spaces: the Limes Room, Avon Room and Victoria Room. Each space can transform effortlessly to meet your needs, and the venue's integrated technology, including projectors, screens and sound systems, further enhance its iconic features and riverside views.
Notes for Cardholders

Any offering for Essential Companion (+1) entry is only available at events where the promoter and ticket provider have agreed to provide an offer. Otherwise, you must purchase a separate ticket for your Essential Companion.

There are three accessible parking spaces on the streets outside the venue which cannot be booked/reserved:
- Two are on Colombo Street and
- One is on Kilmore Street.

James Hay Theatre: There are three wheelchair spaces with companion seating.
(These can be booked with Ticketek.)
Auditorium: There are eight wheelchair spaces with companion seating.
(These can be booked with Ticketek.)

Accessible toilets are located at the Ground Floor Foyer in both the Men's & Women's toilets, plus one separate accessible bathroom. There is also one accessible bathroom on the Mezzanine level.

Please wave your card and take a seat, and our front-of-house (FOH) staff will assist you by placing you in a virtual queue. Serving you at your seat will also be an option.
Level Access

One accessible parking space is available on Kilmore Street in front of the Christchurch Town Hall. Our building is accessible for wheelchair users. There is wheelchair-allocated seating in the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium and James Hay Theatre. There is lift access to the Gallery of the Auditorium, and the Mezzanine of the James Hay Theatre. The Circle level in the James Hay Theatre is stair access only.

Urgent Toilet Access

You can easily find the toilets on the left side of the main foyer. Enter through the main foyer entrance and look to the left. There are 35 standard toilets and 1 accessible toilet for women. There are 9 standard toilets plus urinals and 1 accessible toilet for men. Additionally, there are 2 unisex accessible toilets.
Disability Assist Dogs

We comply with the NZ law with respect to Disability Assistance Dogs. The staff will offer you water for your dog and will indicate the nearest place for the dog to relieve itself if required.
Essential Companions

Additional tickets for the Essential Companion are at the venue hirer's discretion.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Through the training, the staff are well-informed about adapting their communication and assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision. They can help you with the bar menu, assist you to a seat, and guide you to the theatre or toilet if required.

The Douglas Lilburn Auditorium and James Hay Theatre have hearing loop facilities. Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient.
