Notes for Cardholders

Due to a staff member's severe dog allergy, please notify us in advance if you plan to bring your disability assistance dog. Thank you for your cooperation.

Standing and Queuing

Please take a seat, and our front-of-house (FOH) staff will assist you by placing you in a virtual queue.
Level Access

Our virtual indoor tours are completely accessible. We offer two outdoor stargazing tours. The summit experience has a steep incline and gravel surfaces, making it less easily accessible. The crater experience is much more accessible, as it is on flat land. Travel from our base building (Rehua) to the tours is by our fleet of buses, which unfortunately lack good accessibility. However, we can ask customers to follow us in their own vehicles, or on occasion, we can use small vehicles owned by the business but not typically used for customers.
Distances

Our base building is large, however, there is plenty of seating throughout that you are welcome to use. Our accessible parking is located around 100 meters from the entrance.
Urgent Toilet Access
toilet.png
We have 1 accessible toilet and 10 standard toilets in our base building. We have 2 standard toilets on Mount John for the Summit Experience tour. No toilets on our Craters Experience tour (currently).
Disability Assist Dogs

We comply with the NZ law with respect to Disability Assistance Dogs. The staff will offer you water for your dog and will indicate the nearest place for the dog to relieve itself. Due to a staff member's severe dog allergy, please notify us in advance if you plan to bring your dog. Thank you for your cooperation.
Essential Companions

The base building is free to enter. Tours need to booked in advanced. For cardholders with this icon we are happy to offer a free essential companion ticket. In order to book this, please give us a call.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Our tours are highly visually based with verbal commentary to support. Our restaurant staff will assist with reading menus and guiding to locations.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information

Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient. The staff are aware of the NZ Relay service, so please use this if you think it appropriate when ringing if needed.
Hidden Disabilities

Through the staff's training, they are generally aware of hidden disabilities. Please speak to them about how they can assist in making your time with us extraordinary.
