Notes for Cardholders
Free Companion (+1) Ticket
Standing and Queuing
There are few queues; however, if there is one while you are visiting, show your Hāpai Card, and staff will assist you by taking you to the nearest seating and serving you there.
Level Access
Our building got code of compliance in 2020 so has all the required accessible ramps and bathroom facilities. We have two accessible car parks directly outside. There are dirt paths throughout certain areas of the park, however there are other areas that are on grass so if you struggle to propel yourself we recommend that you have someone with you who can assist you.
Distances
There are lots of ways to walk around the park and we can arrange for seating to reduce walking distance to less than 50m at a time. If a person struggles to self-propel they would need to bring a carer in order to enjoy the park.
Urgent Toilet Access
There is 1 accessible & 2 standard toilets, show your card to the staff and they can show you were toilet is and ensure that you are next to use one if there is a queue. Staff will be discrete and respectful.
Disability Assist Dogs
We comply with the NZ law with respect to Disability Assistance Dogs. The staff will offer you water for your dog and will indicate the nearest place for the dog to relieve itself. Please speak to staff at the counter on entry as there are a few areas where dogs are not allowed.
Essential Companions
We welcome companions to accompany our cardholders - we offer them a complimentary +1 ticket.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information
Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you and how they can assist you if you are blind, low vision. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient. They staff are aware of the NZ Relay service so please make use of this if you think it appropriate when ringing if needed.
