Overview
"Lawson Field Theatre is Gisborne’s beloved “little theatre”, home to countless local theatrical and musical productions, conferences, meetings, functions and events. Lawson Field Theatre reopened in September 2019 after earthquake strengthening and improvements.
We offer two spaces for hire: the Theatre and the Rose Room.
Retractable seating in the Theatre - 238 seats, plus space for 4 wheelchairs. Option for Cabaret style with seats retracted.
The Rose Room is a comfortable and well appointed space with windows and patio overlooking the rose garden and river. Capacity of the Rose Room is 135 standing or 80 seated. Commercial kitchen is available for hire."
Notes for Cardholders
We cannot offer any ticket discounts because tickets are managed by the promoters.
Standing and Queuing

We will ask you to take a seat, and we will serve you there. When the auditorium opens, we will bring you in first and personally escort you to your seat.
Level Access

There is no lift in the venue.
Distances

Our building is not large and there is plenty of seating throughout that you are welcome to use. We have one onsite wheelchair between 2 venues. This can be booked in advance by emailing halls@gdc.govt.nz. There are no designated disabled parks in front of the venue. There is a carpark behind the venue (Marina carpark), with one disabled space, approx. 50m.
Urgent Toilet Access

We have 2 standard women's toilets and 1 wheelchair accessible women's toilet. We have 1 wheelchair accessible men's toilet and urinals.
Our toilets are gender neutral which means people may use the toilet of the gender that they identify as.
Disability Assist Dogs

We comply with the NZ law with respect to Disability Assistance Dogs. The staff will offer you water for your dog and will indicate the nearest place for the dog to relieve itself.
Essential Companions

Each ticketed event has its own rules around companion tickets. Please visit the ticket purchase page for each event. You may email halls@gdc.govt.nz for additional assistance.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Through the Training, the staff are well-informed about adapting their communication and assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision. They can help you with the Bar menu, assist you to a seat and guide you to the theatre / toilet if required.

Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient. The staff are aware of the NZ Relay service, so please use this if you think it appropriate when ringing if needed.
Hidden Disabilities

Through the staff's training, they are generally aware of hidden disabilities. Please speak to them about how they can assist in making your time with us great.
