Overview
Lyttelton's very own public swimming pool is enjoyed by the community over the summer months. Surrounded by breathtaking views of the Port Hills and Lyttelton Harbour, this pool offers a safe and enjoyable space for people of all ages to splash, play, and develop their swimming abilities.

Within the Christchurch City Council network, Jellie Park Recreation and Sport Centre's outdoor pool (that is open in the summer only) is the most accessible summer pool.

Standing and Queuing

If you have any difficulty with standing or are struggling in the queue, please wave or show your Hāpai Access Card to the staff members, they will ask you to come to the front of the queue or direct you to available seating. Staff will offer you access to one of the wet wheelchairs that are available to use as needed. These are available in the changing room area and poolside.

Norman Kirk Memorial Pool has a low gradient ramp entrance to the facility. Our doors are manually operated which includes the door to the changing rooms. Reception has 1 lowered desk area. There is a ramp for wheelchair access into the main pool on the right hand side of the pool. Two wet wheelchairs are available to use in the pool. These are available in the changing room area and poolside. There are two changing rooms on poolside; one accessible changing room and one family changing room. No hoist is provided in either changing room. You will need to provide your own harness.

If staff see you with the card or you inform them that you are struggling, they will ask you to come to the front of the queue or direct you to available seating. Staff will offer you access to the 2 wet wheelchairs that are available to use as needed. These are available in the changing room area and poolside. There are seats available throughout the facility for you to use.
Urgent Toilet Access

There is one accessible and one standard toilet to the left hand side of reception when going through the front gate. Poolside: There is one accessible changing room with toilet plus two accessible changing rooms; one with shower and one without. Inside the changing rooms there are standard toilets. All changing rooms and toilets are 20m away from the pools.

Guide and companion dogs are welcome in the facility and can wait beside the pool. Speak to a lifeguard if you have any queries or you need assistance.
Essential Companions

Your support person has free access to the activity that you are attending. The role of your support person is to support you with communication and any personal care assistance, assist you through the facility and support you to exit the facility in an emergency. They will need to assist you in the pool if required or actively monitor from the poolside.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Our team can offer assistance and support to read signs and information and guide you to the changing area/pool. They can also introduce you to the surroundings and key locations such as toilets and entry/exit doors, along with any hazards that may present a risk.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information

Staff will endeavour to communicate clearly with you, if necessary moving to a quieter area. Staff will write down information for you to read if the information is becoming difficult to communicate.
