Overview
Welcome to Pioneer Recreation and Sports Centre. Come relax, have fun and exercise with us! With a lane pool, leisure pool, lazy river, wave pool, sauna, steam room and spa pool we have something for everyone. Prefer to work out in the gym? We also have group fitness classes so you can improve your fitness and work on your wellbeing. There is also a stadium where events, a range of weekly sporting activities and tournaments take place.

Standing and Queuing

We have seven accessible carparks, five at the front entrance (80 metres to the door) and two at the back entrance (30 metres to the door). If staff see the card/lanyard or you appear to be struggling, they’ll ask you to come to the front of the queue or direct you to available seating. Wheelchairs, including wet wheelchairs, are available. There’s a lift next to reception for access to Level 1.
Level Access

We have seven accessible carparks, five at the front entrance (80 metres to the door) and two at the back entrance (30 metres to the door). Both entrance areas are flat with automatic doors. There’s a low ramp into the stadium. Poolside Pool access is through an entry gate. Please ask staff if you need help. Wet wheelchairs are available outside the changing area. We have one accessible changing room and four large changing cubicles. The accessible changing room has an adjustable electric bed, hoist, shower and toilet. Please bring your own slings for the hoist, they are not available to hire. The large changing cubicles have a shower and bench seat. Your wheelchair can be left outside the accessible change area. Your scooter/walking frame can be left poolside if it doesn’t block a pathway or emergency exit. Lifeguards will help you with your equipment when you’re ready to leave the pool. The leisure pool has a ramp. The lane pool has a mobile step access with a rail. Please ask a lifeguard to put the steps in the pool if you need them. The teach pool has built-in steps with a rail. The spa pool has a hoist and steps. The hoist is available for self-transfer or carer assistance. The steam room and sauna are accessible, but you may need help with the doors. Dryside The Southern Centre, lounge and group fitness rooms on Level 1 are wheelchair accessible – take the lift from the reception area. The gym has limited accessible equipment but you can talk to the fitness instructors to get a programme adapted to your needs. There’s a low ramp into the stadium. An accessible change area on Level 1 has an adjustable bed and toilet and an automatic door. There are four accessible toilets in the foyer, two for males and two for females.

We have accessible and public toilets. They are well signposted and open to the public.
Disability Assist Dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome and can wait beside the pool. Speak to a lifeguard if you have any queries or you need help. There’s a grass area and water bowl near the main entrance.
Essential Companions

Your support person has free access to the activity you are attending. Your support person’s role is to help with communication and any personal care, help you through the facility and support you in an emergency. They can help you in the pool if required or actively monitor from the side.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Staff are able to help you to read signs and other information and can guide you to different areas, including toilets, doorways, and help you negotiate any hazards.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information

Staff will communicate clearly with you, moving to a quieter area if necessary. Let staff know if writing information for you to read could help. There is no hearing loop available at Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre.
