Overview
The pool was opened in 1961 and was roofed and reopened in 1982. This work was made possible through community and local funding.

Notes for Cardholders
A casual Hāpai Access Card swim pass costs $3.00 and is valid for 7 days. Multiple weeks can be purchased at the same time.
Carers accompanying a pass holder receive free entry.
Standing and Queuing

The office area is located poolside, with seating available nearby. Additional seating can be provided upon request to support comfort and accessibility.
Level Access

The facility provides ramp access from the entrance through to the pool area. Entrance doors are manually operated.
The shower areas have a small step at the entrance. Accessible toilet facilities are not currently available.
Distances

There are six standard parking spaces located down the driveway, approximately 10 metres from the ramp at the main entry point.
Urgent Toilet Access

Two toilets are located approximately 30 metres from the entrance and are available for use when not occupied.
Disability Assist Dogs

We comply with the New Zealand law regarding Disability Assist dogs. All registered Disability Assist dogs are permitted entry to the Port Chalmers Pool venue.
Essential Companions

Hāpai Access Card holders may bring an essential companion or support person free of charge where they are required to support access to the facility.
Support people may assist with communication, personal care, mobility, supervision, and emergency support, depending on the individual’s needs.
Customers requiring specialist support or equipment are encouraged to attend with a support person who is familiar with their individual needs and any specialised equipment they use.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Signage throughout the facility is clear, high-contrast, and appropriately positioned to assist customers with wayfinding.
Staff are available to provide verbal directions and explain signage, facility layouts, and operational information when required.
Customers can request assistance locating key areas, including changing rooms and toilets.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information

Staff are available to communicate important information verbally, in writing, or using a combination of both methods, depending on customer preference.
Pen and paper can be provided to support communication where required.
Hidden Disabilities

Customers are encouraged to share any information that may help staff support their visit; however, they are not required to disclose personal information beyond what they are comfortable sharing.
Public booking schedules are available to help customers plan their visit around programmes, events, and anticipated usage levels.
