Overview
We stimulate and strengthen the artistic and cultural life of Whakatū through a diverse programme of contemporary exhibitions, projects, and events. Comprising three adaptable gallery spaces and two large workshop facilities, Refinery ArtSpace is also home to the Arts Council Nelson team.
Notes for Cardholders
We have an artist-led audio tour with full transcription for several of our shows.
Standing and Queuing

Seating is available throughout the gallery, and our friendly receptionist is happy to assist you if needed.
Level Access

We have a pavement-level entry with automatic doors and wide thoroughfares, including a ramp to access both levels.
Distances

We have plenty of accessible parking, and one can be made available in advance at the rear entrance, which is wide and at street level. We are happy to assist if required.
Urgent Toilet Access

We have an accessible toilet with a wall-mounted handrail. We can also provide access to a staff toilet if necessary.
Disability Assist Dogs

We comply with New Zealand law regarding Disability Assist Dogs. All registered Disability Assist Dogs are permitted entry to the business venue. Accepted proof of registration can be either the visitor's Hāpai Access Card displaying the icon shown above, or presentation of registration documentation along with the dog wearing its relevant service jacket (coat, vest, or harness).

Entry to our facility is free for all.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

We provide audio tours for audiences with vision impairment, and friendly front-of-house staff are available to provide guidance if necessary.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information

We have plenty of written information and transcribed artist audio tours for many of our exhibitions. Our friendly front-of-house staff are available to help in any way necessary.
Hidden Disabilities

We can provide a quiet space if a visitor requires it. Our gallery is usually a quiet, low-sensory space.
