Overview
The Rolleston Community Centre is a Community Arts Hub for the Selwyn District. Our community arts groups offer a growing number activities for the community to participate in. The centre also has a variety of affordable venue spaces for hire and hosts a wide range of recreation activities such as classes, markets, and events. Venue spaces for hire include tables and chairs. Seating in the stadium are 2 level bleachers, but staff are able to supply chair to the card holder if needed.
Notes for Cardholders
Standing and Queuing

The main car park is just outside of the Centre and 3 marked mobility car parks are located near the entrance. The curb from the car park to the walkway is sloped for easy wheelchair/walker access. The entry from the car park to the foyer is at ground level through two sets of glass doors. All public facilities inside the building are at ground level. The foyer and corridor are tiled, wide enough for walker maneuvering. We have a chair near the service desk available for you to use. Staff can provide more seating if needed.
Level Access

The main car park is just outside of the Centre with 3 marked mobility car parks near the entrance. The curb from the car park to the walkway is sloped for easy wheelchair access. Entry to the foyer from the car park is at ground level through two sets of glass doors. Public facilities in the building are at ground level. The foyer and corridor are tiled, wide enough for wheelchair maneuverings. The service desk has a lower portion suitable for people in a wheelchair.
Access to toilets is signposted. We have 2 unisex accessible toilets:
1) located in the main part of the building; comes with a floor-level shower and grab bars;
2) the second one is a part of Community Room and doesn’t have a shower.
Doors are lockable from inside and releasable from outside in case of emergency.
All internal doors (to Stadium, Lounge and Community Room) are double-leaf doors with easy to grip handles. They can be secure open either by using a door wedge or a hook.
Distances

There is plenty of car parking available just outside of the Centre and 3 marked mobility car parks near the entrance. Entry to the foyer from the car park is at ground level through two sets of glass doors. All public facilities in the building are at ground level. The service desk is in the foyer with a chair available nearby if you wish to sit down.
Please note: we are one person on duty most times. If practically possible, it would be helpful to phone us in advance and let us know what assistance you require.
Urgent Toilet Access

Centre staff will orientate you with the location of the facilities when you arrive. There are women’s and men’s toilets and one accessible toilet (with shower) in the main part of the building. We will enable urgent access to any toilet with no questions asked. The accessible toilet is lockable from inside and releasable from outside in case of emergency.
Disability Assist Dogs

We welcome registered assistance dogs to accompany their owner into our facility. There is a grassed reserve next to the centre where the assistance dog can go to the toilet. If your dog gets thirsty, a water fountain with a built-in dog bowl is near the main entrance.
Essential Companions

There is no entry fee into The Rolleston Community Centre, everyone is welcome. If you are attending our enrollment-based and paid workshop, class or program, your +1 is permitted to attend with you to assist you. Please ensure to let us know about your +1 during enrollment.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Our staff will be happy to assist by orienting you to the signs in the building and helping you understand written material such as the brochures about our programs, classes and events. If the reception are is too busy for you to concentrate let us know and we will find somewhere quieter.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information

Please make yourself known to our staff on arrival, and we will do what we can to assist you. Room names are signposted and there are directional signs for toilets and emergency exits. When we talk to you, we will look at you and speak at a pace that you are comfortable with. We can offer you pen and paper and communicate with you through writing and reading if required. Brochures about our programs, classes and events are available at the service desk.

The Rolleston Community Centre is a place for all. We endeavour to create a welcoming and safe environment for our disabled customers, to make you feel included in our community and the activities we offer.
