Notes for Cardholders
We are pleased to offer the same discount to cardholders as the Community Services card. Please see our website for more information.
Standing and Queuing
We are happy to attend to you immediately. Please indicate to us with your card or by a request that you have difficulty standing. We will take you to a seat and attend to your query. You will find we have plenty of seating around the Selwyn Sports Centre as well as an onsite wheelchair.By letting us know you have this card icon, staff will be ready to assist you if there is an emergency event.
Level Access
We at Selwyn Sports Centre pride ourselves on being an accessible friendly facility including, but not limited to, a lift to get to our upstairs area, accessible toilet facilities on both levels and an emergency evacuation wheelchair to go down the stairs in case of emergency.
Distances
Our friendly team will ensure you are welcomed, comfortable and support your needs while visiting us. It is less than 100m from the accessible parking spaces to the reception, but we have a drop-off point that is slightly closer. If you find walking to the changing rooms, or the various halls where sports occur we have a wheelchair upon request. There is a lift to the first floor.
Urgent Toilet Access
We have many toilet facilities around the Selwyn Sports Centre and staff are happy to indicate exactly where they are for you, in a discreet manner. Our team can ensure you get to a bathroom quickly with little issues.
Disability Assist Dogs
If you are going to be a regular visitor to the Selwyn Sports Centre we are happy to offer a familiarisation session so that you can get around independently. We do have many exits around the building that we can show you if your assistance dog needs to go outside to the toilet. Please enquire at the front desk for a dog bowl if required.
Essential Companions
For customers who require the assistance of a support person we are happy to provide complimentary entry. Please make staff aware of your need for a +1 when signing up for events or activities so that they can be accounted for.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information
The staff at Selwyn Sports Centre are very patient and will not rush you. We will explain clearly any visual information or signs that you need to have an enjoyable visit. We can also take you on a physical tour if that will help, or guide you to where you want to get to.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information
The staff at Selwyn Sports Centre are very patient and will not rush you. We can explain slowly and clearly but we can also write things down if that is easier for you. Also while we are wearing facemasks during Covid times we can stand at a distance or behind the plastic screen at reception and take our mask off (if requested) to help with those of you who rely on lip-reading more than others.
Hidden Disabilities
We are here to help you, if you have any needs please let the team know and we will do our best to tend to your needs. We have separate spaces if you need a quiet place to talk, we can talk to other customers and ask them not to use flash cameras.
