Overview
We provide expert local knowledge on Te Aroha and the surrounding district. We can help you with maps and guides for walking and cycling tracks, postcards, souvenirs, and the now-famous Lemon and Te Aroha. We can book buses, trains, and ferries. We can also help advertise your event on our website. You can get a fishing license from us, and we can hire you a personal locator beacon for those fishing trips and walks in the bush. But most of all, we’ll help you get the very best out of your time in Te Aroha by telling you about all the great things to do.
Notes for Cardholders
Hāpai Access Cardholders receive a complimentary bottle of 'Lemon and Te Aroha'.
Standing and Queuing
We have plenty of seating around the visitor centre and there are generally no queues. However, if there is a queue, please show your card to our staff, take a seat, and we will serve you at your seat.
Level Access
Our building has one accessible parking outside the front door. Please take care when stepping from your car onto the curb. The short walk to the front door is slightly inclined but accessible for self-propelled wheelchairs. The interior of the building is all on one level and includes automatic doors for easy access.
Distances
Our building is large, however, there is plenty of seating throughout that you are welcome to use.
Our accessible parking is located 8 metres away from the front door.
Urgent Toilet Access
The accessible public toilets are located in the Domain, 35 metres behind the Information Centre.
Disability Assist Dogs
We comply with the NZ law with respect to Disability Assistance Dogs. The staff will offer you water for your dog and will indicate the nearest place for the dog to relieve itself.
Essential Companions
We do not require payment to enter so your companion is more than welcome if they want to purchase something or not.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information
Through the training, the staff are well-informed about adapting their communication and assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision. They can help you with directions, assist you to a seat and guide you to the toilet if required.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information
Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient. The staff are aware of the NZ Relay service, so please use this if you think it appropriate when ringing if needed.
Hidden Disabilities
Through the staff's training, they are generally aware of hidden disabilities. Please speak to them about how they can assist in making your time with us extraordinary.
