Overview
Opened in 2014, Te Uru Contemporary Gallery is a place for art, ideas, and community. Located in scenic Titirangi, we offer exhibitions, events, and learning programmes that situate the work of leading local artists within global conversations.
Notes for Cardholders
Entry to the gallery is free.
If you require assistance accessing the car park directly outside the front entrance for mobility reasons, please call in advance.
If the essential companion is joining a class as an assistant they would not need to pay - we would just need to be alerted of this in advance.
Standing and Queuing

We have seating available on each floor. If a member would like a temporary seat provided for use within the exhibition spaces, they can request this at reception.
Level Access

There is mobility parking on Titirangi Rd outside the gallery. We can also cone off parking if requested in advance.
The gallery is accessible, with mobility bathrooms and a lift to access all floors.
The only possible challenge might be the main access doors to the public bathrooms. When we have guests in wheelchairs, these doors can be jammed open with a door stop or latched back for easier access.
Distances

We have one wheelchair available for use in the gallery during your visit. There is mobility parking outside, and we are also happy to cone off a space near the entrance if you contact the gallery in advance.
If staff are available, we can offer assistance by pushing the wheelchair.
Urgent Toilet Access

We have 7 public bathrooms, including 2 mobility bathrooms. These are located on levels 3 and 4 of the gallery. Levels 5 and 6 do not have bathrooms. All bathrooms are publicly accessible.
Disability Assist Dogs

We comply with New Zealand law regarding Disability Assist Dogs. All registered Disability Assist Dogs are permitted entry to the business venue. Accepted proof of registration includes presenting the visitor’s Hāpai Card displaying the icon shown above, OR presenting registration documentation along with the dog wearing its relevant service jacket.
Essential Companions

Entry to the gallery is free - we welcome all visitors. If the essential companion is joining a class as an assistant they would not need to pay - we would just need to be alerted of this in advance.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

We welcome all visitors verbally and can discuss the exhibitions on view. We are currently unable to provide audio guides. However, if given sufficient notice, we can arrange for a staff member to provide a more detailed talk about the exhibitions.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information

We offer text about every exhibition.
Hidden Disabilities

The gallery has a soft cushioned area on level 3. If classes are taking place, it may be noisy—so it’s best to ask at reception for the quietest spot in the gallery. Often, it is a nice, quiet experience.
