Overview
WORD Christchurch stages a world class annual festival and out-of-season events, bringing the best of local and international writers, thinkers and performers to Ōtautahi Christchurch Aotearoa New Zealand. With a focus on books and writers, we are also a dynamic festival that celebrates words in all their forms to bring cultural vibrancy to the city.
Notes for Cardholders

Concession tickets are only available for students with ID, Hāpai Card holders, Gold Card holders and Community Services Card holders. Service fees are the same for all tickets.

If you are a Hāpai Access Card holder with a +1 symbol we are pleased to provide your companion a free ticket for festival events (excluding catered events).

If you present this icon to us we will ensure you are next to use the toilet in a discrete way.
Disability Assist Dogs

We comply with NZ law which says registered disability assistance dogs must be welcomed onto the premises, if a customer has this icon it means their dog has been registered. Please offer a water bowl to the dog or guide the customer to the nearest place for a dog to relieve itself if required. Allocate space for the cardholder to sit with their dog, ensuring the dog has comfortable space and doesn't create any trip hazards for other patrons.

Difficulty Accessing Visual Information

Staff and volunteers are informed about adapting their communication and assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision. They can help you with the programme, tickets, assist you to a seat and guide you to the event space and amenities if required.

Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient.
Hidden Disabilities

Through the staff's training, they are generally aware of hidden disabilities. Please speak to our staff and volunteers about how they can assist in making your time with us comfortable and enjoyable.
